Lonnie Donegan and There's More
I was born on the day WW2 started (don't blame me!) and even from the age of four can remember the Americans coming into Buxton from Burtonwood and distributing chewing gum to us kids. We used to shout 'any gum chum?' as they drove by in their jeeps, and they used to throw us a few sticks. Never got any Coca Cola though.
First saw Lonnie at the Pavilion Gardens Ballroom in here in Buxton in 1955 at the Daily Express Jazz Ball when he played banjo with Chris Barber. I bought my fist Martin guitar in 1960, a 1937 00018 model from a shop in London after seeing it advertised in Melody Maker for £50.
Played in various duos and trios and a small dance band until I joined a local band called Top Country Sound and I have been with them since 1979.
